The Scandinavian Mountain Men (S.M.M.) are dedicated to the preservation and study of the frontier people involved in the North American fur trade by means of literary research and experimental archaeology.
Purpose and Objective
Our purpose is that of an archaeologist, i.e. to establish facts about historical people involved in the fur trade and their way of life within the different time periods. This is accomplished by experimentation in wilderness situations, using firearms, clothing, and accoutrements authentic to those used by the early frontier people in North America.
The objective of the S.M.M. is to act as a brotherhood for serious fur trade re-enactors/historical trekkers throughout Scandinavia, making it possible for members to organize and come together for various treks and gatherings. Historical information and documentation is exchanged as well as useful "how-to" information.
Membership
S.M.M. membership is achieved through invitation only. We require that our members share the common love for wilderness living and the goal of reaching as complete authenticity in their historical persona as possible. This includes clothing, firearms, and the accoutrements that would authentically fit the chosen historical time period, between the years 1700 and 1840. Part of our purpose is helping each other to reach our common goals by sharing our knowledge and experience.
If you attend any of the major annual Scandinavian rendezvous, you will likely see S.M.M. members camping together.
